Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially extended a financial boost of Tsh30 million (approx. Sh1.5 million) to legendary Hip Hop icon and former Mikumi MP, Professor Jay.
The donation, is aimed at supporting the Nikusaidiaje hitmaker as he continues his recovery and transitions back to his daily life after a long battle with health complications.
The handover was not just a formal government affair; it was a reunion of industry peers. The funds were delivered by the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma—famously known to fans as Mwana FA.
Mwana FA was joined by the Mayor of Dar es Salaam, Nurdin Bilal Juma (better known as the artiste Shetta), as they visited the veteran rapper at his home to deliver the President’s personal message of encouragement.
During the visit, the delegation emphasized that the Tanzanian government continues to hold Professor Jay’s contribution to the creative economy in high regard.
“The government continues to value Professor Jay’s contribution to the growth of Tanzania’s hip hop industry and his role in educating and inspiring society through music,” the message from State House noted.
A visibly moved Professor Jay expressed his profound gratitude to “Mama” Samia for her unwavering support, noting that the President has stood by him since the early days of his illness. He also took a moment to thank the legion of fans across East Africa whose prayers and encouragement have been a pillar of strength for his family.
