A man accused of stealing hard drives containing unreleased music by Beyoncé has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to breaking into a vehicle belonging to members of the singer’s team.
Kelvin Evans, 41, pleaded guilty to several offences, including entering an automobile and criminal trespass, in connection with the July 2025 incident in Atlanta.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court handed him three years’ probation.
According to the BBC, authorities said Evans targeted a rented Jeep Wagoneer used by a choreographer and dancer working with Beyoncé during preparations for the Atlanta leg of her Cowboy Carter tour.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, shortly before the singer began a four-night run at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
TMZ reported that the two members of Beyoncé’s team had briefly left the vehicle before returning to find the rear window smashed and several personal belongings missing.
Stolen items included suitcases, electronics, luxury fashion items and hard drives said to contain unreleased Beyoncé music and confidential material.
Despite investigations, officials confirmed the missing hard drives and other stolen property have not been recovered.
Evans reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on Tuesday, avoiding a full trial that had been set to continue later in the week.
During proceedings, his lawyer appealed for leniency, saying his client was “hoping for a future where he can make money legitimately and be part of society like the rest of us”.
Prosecutors presented surveillance footage allegedly linking Evans to the theft.
One video reportedly showed a red Hyundai pulling up beside the rented SUV inside a parking garage before the break-in.
Another clip later captured the same vehicle arriving at an apartment complex, where Evans was allegedly seen handling luggage believed to belong to Beyoncé choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue.
Investigators also said tracking technology from the stolen laptops led police to the apartment address shown in the surveillance footage.
As part of the sentencing, Evans was ordered to stay away from the victims involved in the case and the parking garage where the theft took place.
Court records show he has remained in custody since his arrest in August last year.
