Fashion and philanthropy came together at the Sarova Panafric Hotel on Saturday, August 22, as 17-year-old designer Amara Uberoi presented her couture collection in support of Msamaria Mwema Children’s Home in Lower Kabete.
Organised under Uberoi’s Threads of Hope initiative, the evening showcased a collection designed and produced in India.
The designs drew creative inspiration from wildlife and endangered species, blending artistic fashion with advocacy to highlight both the natural beauty and vulnerability of wildlife.
The event focused on raising resources for Msamaria Mwema Children’s Home, which was founded in 2007 by Peter Chege. While the shelter initially began by caring for three children, it has expanded significantly over the past two decades and now provides shelter, clothing, care, and education to 52 children.
Proceeds raised from the runway event will directly support these daily operational needs and ongoing care.
Representatives from the beneficiary organisation expressed deep appreciation during the event, acknowledging the impact the contributions will have on the facility’s daily operations.
“On behalf of Msamaria Mwema Children’s Home, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out today and contributed towards this cause,” said Charity Mumbua of Msamaria Mwema Children’s Home.
“Every donation, every effort, and every act of kindness will go a long way in bringing hope and support to the children,” she added.
Mumbua extended special appreciation to the organisers and the young designer for steering the effort to completion.
“A special thank you to our organisers, Threads of Hope in conjunction with Amara, for making this event possible, and to everyone who contributed in one way or another,” she added. “May we continue to spread love, kindness, and hope wherever we go.”
