Author Joyce Wambua Osborne has marked one year since the release of her debut memoir, Seasons of Me: A Journey of Learning & Unlearning, celebrating the milestone alongside family, friends, colleagues and former schoolmates.
The anniversary celebrations unfolded across two continents, taking place at the Oliver Golf Club in Wilmington, Delaware, and at the Pickled Bar and Café in Lavington, Nairobi.
The gatherings brought together key figures from her journey, including alumni from Pangani Girls High School as well as former peers from Kenyatta University.
The book captures her personal trajectory from modest beginnings in Kenya to navigating career hurdles, overseas relocation, motherhood, and healing across the American landscape.
Beyond her literary pursuits, Joyce works as a finance professional holding an MBA and CPA qualifications.
Reflecting on her life, Joyce often describes her experiences as a series of strategic escape rooms rather than mere games or adventures.
She noted that while she initially viewed her difficult moments as running away, she now recognises they were preparing her for a higher purpose.
“I thought I was running away, but I was actually being prepared,” she said.
Her deeply personal writing project has resonated widely since its publication, picking up critical acclaim along the way.
Notably, the book earned second place in the non-fiction, autobiography, or memoir category at the Delaware Press Association’s Book Competition.
Looking back on the past year, Joyce expressed gratitude for how the message of self-discovery continues to reach new audiences.
“One year later, the story still tells itself,” she said.
During her return to Nairobi for a media and engagement tour, she reconnected with long-time supporters while welcoming new readers into her growing community.
Looking ahead, Joyce aims to expand the book’s reach into new formats, beginning with an upcoming audiobook before embarking on a screen adaptation.
“In the near future, after the audiobook is produced, I am going to feature my book into film,” Joyce said.
