The lack of coverage stemmed from Trump’s directive to ban CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from White House grounds over accusations of biased reporting.
Because CNN was scheduled to handle television pool duties, the wider television press pool—including ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox News—refused to send a replacement crew in solidarity, temporarily halting pool coverage.
In response, the barred outlets filed a joint lawsuit in federal court citing First Amendment violations.
Following the gathering, Trump traveled to Manhattan ahead of the United Nations General Assembly to meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion.
This marked their third private discussion, but their first held at the official mayoral residence. Despite their stark political differences, the exchange proved civil, with Trump voicing public approval for the mayor’s start in office.
