Comedian and media personality Dr Ofweneke has challenged fellow entertainer Terence Creative’s advice to Ciggie Johnson to continue raising a 12-year-old girl despite a DNA test reportedly showing that he is not her biological father.

The disagreement followed Terence’s call for Ciggie not to walk away from the girl, whom he has raised since birth.

Drawing from his own experience of being raised by foster parents, Terence argued that fatherhood is not solely determined by biology, saying the bond, love and care built over 12 years should also be considered.

“Sometimes it’s not DNA that determines if the kid is yours or not,” Terence said.

He urged Ciggie to continue caring for the child as he had done before the DNA revelation, warning that suddenly withdrawing from her could have a lasting emotional impact.

Ofweneke, however, took a different position, arguing that Ciggie should have been allowed to make an informed decision about taking on a fatherly role from the beginning.

“You can only be a stepfather by choice, not by trick or trap,” he said.

Ofweneke also questioned why DNA testing is not routinely carried out at birth, arguing that establishing biological parentage early could help prevent similar disputes from emerging years later.

The debate follows Ciggie’s revelation on October 3 that he had raised the girl since birth before a DNA test allegedly showed that he was not her biological father.

In a video shared on social media, Ciggie discussed the results with the girl’s mother, prompting a heated online debate over whether he should continue providing for the child despite the reported DNA results.

Ciggie has said he spent years supporting the girl, including paying her school fees and meeting other expenses.

In a subsequent response to those urging him to continue providing for her, he reportedly said he had been spending more than KSh60,000 a month and argued that responsibility should now fall on the biological father.

The debate has also drawn attention to the girl, who has been placed at the centre of a public dispute over her paternity despite having no role in the circumstances surrounding it.

While Terence has focused on the emotional bond built over 12 years, Ofweneke’s position centres on consent and the right to make an informed choice about fatherhood
