Andrew Kibe has strongly criticised Stevo Simple Boy over a viral comedy skit in which the rapper pulled a monkey stunt while wearing diapers, face painted, climbed trees and ate bananas.
Kibe said the content was embarrassing and could damage Kenya’s image online.
In a video shared online, the controversial media personality said Stevo’s performance was taking the country “50 years back.” He argued that the skit was not funny in a positive way but instead portrayed Kenyans in a regressive manner.
He compared the video to Kenya’s history during the 1952 State of Emergency, claiming that even Mau Mau fighters did not behave in the way Stevo had portrayed himself.
His comments have divided Kenyans, with some finding the skit funny while others said it portrays harmful stereotypes about Africans.
The commentator said the video could give users from other African countries material to use against Kenyans during online “Twitter wars.”
He argued that it would become difficult for Kenyans to defend themselves when such content circulates widely.
Kibe said he was once criticised heavily because of remarks he made about Stevo. He recalled that he was “almost cancelled” after saying that people like Stevo should not have children.
He suggested that Stevo’s latest video had now proved his earlier criticism right, although he did not explain clearly how the skit connected to the issue of having children.
Kibe also criticised Kenyan audiences, calling them “fake.” He predicted that Stevo could later use Kibe’s harsh reaction to attract sympathy and financial support from the public.
Kibe’s comments about Stevo’s family previously caused a major public outcry. The remarks were widely condemned because they involved Stevo’s newborn son.
Stevo responded by asking Kibe to discuss him directly but to leave his innocent child out of the disagreement.
“Kama una tatizo na mimi, zungumza kuhusu mimi. Lakini usimhusishe mtoto wangu ambaye hana kosa lolote (If you have a problem with me, talk about me. But do not involve my child, who has done nothing wrong),” Stevo said.
Several celebrities criticised Kibe and asked public figures to keep children out of celebrity disputes.
The backlash forced podcast host Dr Ofweneke to apologise to Stevo and his family and deleted the episode from his platform.
