The Milimani anti-corruption court has found Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife – Susan Wangari – guilty in a corruption case involving the award of a KSh 588 million roads tender in 2018.
The ruling by Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki also indicted businessman Charles Chege and his wife Beth Wangechi, as well as the former Chief Officer Engineer of the Kiambu County Government roads – Luka Mwangi.About 32 prosecution witnesses testified and 129 exhibits presented to the court after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) charged Waititu and his accomplices for abuse of office and engaging in fraudulent procurement practices.The prosecution also launched separate charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property and money laundering – the latter which was struck out in the judgement.
Several firms including – Testimony Enterprises Limited, Saika Two Estate Developers Limited, and Bienvenue Delta Hotel – were also involved in the corruption case.
Waititu was ordered to appear in court this morning after failing to show up on Tuesday. He tried to defend himself by claiming the charges were cooked up to unseat him from the governor’s position after falling out with President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2022 polls. More updates to come…
