Freshman Albert Kamau emerged as the winner of the Kengen Golf Day tournament held at the Limuru Country Club over the weekend.

The first-year law student at the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) braved the chilly Limuru weather and triumphed over a field of 178 golfers.

Playing off a handicap of 27, Kamau secured the victory with an impressive score of 42 stableford points, earning his first overall title at his home course.
He remained focused on managing the course by concentrating on each shot, which paid off handsomely.

“My plan was simple. To focus on each shot and placement and convert them into scores. I’m so excited about this big win, especially beating my siblings and dad to the podium,” said Kamau.

In Division A, Solomon Irimu, playing off a handicap of seven, won with 36 stableford points. Nancy Wairimu was recognized as the best lady in Division A with 38 stableford points.

In Division B, Gatu Mureithi and M Wairimu were Man and Lady winners, scoring 38 and 36 stableford points, respectively.

In the combined Division C, junior golfer Chloe Edemba a junior shone with an outstanding score of 47 stableford points.

Leading the Kengen staff was Roy Bwoma, playing off a handicap of 21, who returned a score of 37 stableford points to win the Staff prize, with Reuben Langat coming in second with 36 stableford points.

Calvin Azenga stood out in the Guest category, achieving a remarkable score of 40 stableford points while playing off a handicap of 49. In the Junior category, Jason Kamau earned the prize with 37 stableford points.

David Irimu, a Senior Chairman, won the Nearest to the Pin prize. In the Longest Drive contest, Lawrence Kinyanjui took the title in the Men’s division, while Beth Kariuki led in the ladies’ division.

The Royal Nairobi Golf Club hosted a field of 266 golfers for the “Tee off with Crown” series sponsored by Crown Paints Plc.

After all was said and done, handicap 15, Nathan Kimutai was declared the Overall winner with an enviable score of 58 nett.

The series has been held in several venues, including Nyahururu Sports Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club and Kitale Club and will be heading to more places soon.

Kimutai expressed that he had been pursuing such a victory for a long time. Each time he was on the verge of winning, something awry, but this time, everything seemed to align.

Daniel Mwamati was the Men winner with a score of 61 nett with Chetan Solanski settling for the Men winner second prize with 61 nett while Linus Kowiti was third with 62 nett.

Handicap 14, Florence Maina, was declared the Lady winner followed closely by Jinnel Mwangi with a score of 62 nett.

Pal Tethy won the Senior prize with a score of 59 nett, playing off a handicap of 29. Hakeem Mutungi won the Junior Prize with a score of 68 nett.

Handicap 7, Collins Too won the Gross prize with a score of 72. Bernard Dulo won the Division 4 prize with a nett score of 58.

Crown Paints Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rakesh Rao won the Sponsor prize with a score of 76 nett, while Christopher Andrea, playing off -1, won the Sponsor Second prize with a score of 69 nett.

At the Kericho Golf Club, Edward Keter, playing off handicap 16, recorded 41 stableford points to win the Kam and Western Regions Golf Tournament.

He was closely followed by Collins Kipkurui, who finished with 40 stableford points.
The overall ladies’ nett prize was awarded to Hellen Koech, who achieved a score of 37 stableford points. [email protected]

I’m so excited about this big win, especially beating my siblings and dad to the podium,” Kamau.
