The National Assembly has approved a raft of changes to its committee memberships following the adoption of a motion moved by Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro during Tuesday’s sitting.

The changes affect several key departmental and oversight committees, with both replacements and reshuffles among members.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has taken over from Leah Sankaire in the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee, while Edwin Mugo Gichuki has joined the Budget and Appropriations Committee, replacing Nyoro.

In the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation, Muiruri Muthama Stanley has replaced Chepkwony Charity Kathambi.

At the same time, Bensuda Joyce Atieno Osogo fills the position left vacant by the late Charles Ong’ondo Were.

“Njoroge Mary Wamaua has taken over from Liza Chelule Chepkorir in the Departmental Committee on Labour. In turn, Chelule moves to the Departmental Committee on Regional Development, replacing Mary Emaase Otucho,” the order paper on the Parliament’s website read in part.

The Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife will now include Leah Sopiato Sankaire, who replaces Edwin Mugo Gichuki.

John Okano Bwire has joined the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee, succeeding Geoffrey Ruku, who was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.

“In the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai replaces Eric Muchangi Karemba. Meanwhile, Karemba and Patrick Munene Ntwiga have joined the Public Petitions Committee, taking over from Ernest Ogesi Kagesi and Mbai, respectively,” the statement added.

The Committee on Implementation saw Chepkwony Charity Kathambi return, replacing Muiruri Muthama Stanley.

Additionally, Jane Njeri Maina and Shakeel Shabbir have been appointed to the Committee on Powers and Privileges, succeeding John Bwire and James Oyoo.

Anne Muratha and Peter Ochieng’ Orero joined the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, with Orero filling the position formerly held by the late Ong’ondo Were.
