Kenyan hip-hop artiste Snaidah Don Dada has unveiled her latest album, Sergeant Baddie, marking a milestone in her independent music journey as she continues to carve out a bigger space within Kenya’s fast-growing hip-hop scene.

Released as the Deluxe Edition, the album arrives as the follow-up to her 2024 project Flawed Perfection, with Snaidah describing it as her most personal and complete body of work yet.

The album captures years of artistic evolution, combining confident lyricism with deep storytelling as she chronicles her experiences navigating the music industry on her own terms.

The 13-track project explores different themes offering listeners an intimate look into the highs and lows of her career while celebrating the victories that have shaped her journey.

Speaking about the album ahead of its release, Snaidah revealed that it had been six years in the making, a process she says tested both her patience and determination.

“This project is the product of persistence, and my independent hustle,” she said.

“I’ve worked on it for six years without the backing of a major record label, and every song represents a part of my journey. I wanted to create something that truly reflects who I am as an artiste.”

The title itself is a declaration of confidence. It symbolises strength, authority and fearlessness, qualities that are echoed throughout the album’s lyrical themes and visual identity.

Its striking black, white and pink cover artwork complements the project’s bold, street-inspired aesthetic while reinforcing the message of self-confidence that runs through the record.

Across its 13 tracks, Snaidah takes listeners on a journey of personal reflection, determination and triumph.

The album features Femi2, I’m The Prize, Self-Made, Rising Tide, Wasn’t What I Thought, Unpaid Dreams, Beneath The Surface, Chasing Shadows, Kinenge, How I Feel featuring Plate Mdaijasho, Chezatwisti featuring Edrinfinity, Nyamakilo, and Kiongos featuring Slyboiler and DMore.

Several songs delve into themes that have become central to her artistic identity.

Tracks such as I’m The Prize, Self-Made, Unpaid Dreams and Beneath The Surface speak to self-worth, overcoming setbacks and refusing to give up despite obstacles.

“I want people to hear the honesty in these songs,” she says. “There were moments when things didn’t go as planned, but those experiences shaped me. This album is about believing in yourself even when the journey is difficult.”

The project also showcases a wide range of musical influences through its production.

Beats are handled by K11DD, Kingpheezle, Azzim, Darwin, Kuntaofficialbeats and Emma Principal, creating a diverse soundscape that moves between hard-hitting hip-hop records and more reflective, emotionally driven compositions.

The varied production allows her commanding delivery to shine while creating room for vulnerability, giving the album both lyrical depth and commercial appeal.

Guest appearances from Plate Mdaijasho, Edrinfinity, Slyboiler and DMore further broaden the project’s range, bringing different styles and perspectives that complement her storytelling without overshadowing her voice.

For Snaidah, Sergeant Baddie is more than simply another album release. It represents years of sacrifice, consistency and a commitment to building a career independently in an increasingly competitive music industry.

She says the project is intended to inspire anyone pursuing a dream without established backing, proving that persistence and belief in one’s craft can eventually bear fruit.

The release also comes at a time when Kenya’s hip-hop scene continues to experience renewed momentum, with a growing number of artistes embracing independent distribution and digital streaming platforms to reach audiences both locally and internationally.

Against that backdrop, the project positions her among a new generation of female rappers seeking to expand the genre’s influence across the region.

Now available on major streaming platforms, the album stands as one of the artist’s most ambitious releases to date.

Beyond showcasing her evolution as a songwriter and performer, it reflects a musician determined to remain authentic while pushing the boundaries of her craft.
