The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has ordered Kamba Benga musician Alex Kasau Katombi to immediately remove his ‘Wikend’ music video from YouTube and other digital platforms over alleged sexually explicit content.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, the board said the video contained nudity, indecent exposure and sexually explicit scenes, alongside depictions of substance abuse, alcohol consumption and tobacco use.

According to the regulator, the content made the production unsuitable for general exhibition, particularly because it could be accessed by children and other vulnerable audiences online.

KFCB said routine compliance monitoring had established that the video was released to the public without obtaining the necessary licence or classification under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222.

“The video, which premiered on YouTube, contains sexually explicit content, nudity and indecent exposure, while depicting substance abuse, alcohol consumption and tobacco use, making it unsuitable for general exhibition,” the board stated.

The regulator said it had consequently partnered with Google Kenya to have Katombi’s video taken down from his YouTube channel and other distribution platforms likely to be accessed by minors.

The board added that it was working with relevant law enforcement agencies and digital platforms to enforce the directive.

KFCB reiterated that artistic freedom must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law, warning against the production and distribution of audiovisual content that violates the country’s regulations.

The board also urged parents, guardians and caregivers to take a more active role in monitoring the content consumed by children, particularly on online platforms where age-inappropriate material can be readily accessible.

The directive places Katombi’s latest release under regulatory scrutiny as authorities continue to address concerns surrounding the classification and distribution of online entertainment in Kenya.

The musician is a familiar name in the Kamba Benga music scene, having built a following through his music and popular releases.

The latest development could renew debate about the balance between creative expression, online distribution and the protection of children from inappropriate content.
