Five-year-old boy found dead in Nyamira tea plantation after failing to return home.

Police in Borabu Sub-county, Nyamira County, are investigating the murder of a five-year-old boy whose body was discovered in a tea plantation a day after he reportedly failed to return home from school.

The body of Ezra Momanyi, a PP1 pupil, was found on Friday afternoon in Endemo village under disturbing circumstances.

According to a police report filed at Manga Police Station, the incident was reported by the child’s grandmother after the minor went missing on Thursday evening.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ezra attended school on Thursday, May 7, before he was reportedly picked up by a boda boda rider, who allegedly dropped him along a feeder road leading to his home. However, the boy never arrived home.

His body was later discovered at around 1:30 pm on Friday in a tea plantation belonging to one Stephen Ong’ondo.

Police officers from Manga Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Borabu, visited the scene located about eight kilometres south of the station.

Investigators said the child’s body was found lying on its back with injuries to the head and abdomen. Police also noted blood stains on the inner clothing and suspect the child may have been sexually assaulted before being killed and dumped in the plantation.

The body was moved to Nyansiongo Mission Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
